The Coorong is a magical place! Surrounded by water and jaw-dropping scenery around every corner, the region has so much to offer visitors.
The Coorong National Park predominantly covers a lagoon ecosystem known as The Coorong, which is where Coorong Aurora is situated. The Coorong is an internationally significant wetland, recognised as a migratory bird refuge.
Separated from the Southern Ocean by sand dunes that form the Younghusband Peninsula, the Coorong is your playground. You can walk and cycle trails, fish, try out kayaking in the lagoon or lake, or birdwatch. If you have a 4WD then you can drive along the beach of the Peninsula.
Coorong Aurora is just a 10 minute drive to Meningie, which has amenities including a supermarket and bakery. Remember that shops are not open late, so it’s always best to be prepared.
A 4WD is a great option in the Coorong, but not necessary. Visitors can get to many of the sites by car, including close to the beach.
If driving on the beach, be aware and mindful of the dangers of unpredictable tides. Always watch the weather forecast, and observe advisory signs.Show More
