Exploring Coonalpyn, South Australia.

Ever wondered what the small town of Coonalpyn has to offer?

Coorong Realty has done some investigating, read on to find out!

DID YOU KNOW?

Coonalpyn was part of the Ninety-Mile Desert?

The Ninety-Mile Desert was a large stretch of land comprising of 1.5million hectares that was deemed a wasteland by the early settlers of the area.

The reason being that the land was mostly poor, sandy soils and didn't provide the nutritional value that was needed to grow crops.

That was until 1944 when Scientist, Dr. David Riceman experimented with several local farmers on their land and revealed that there was a lack of trace elements in their soils.

The elements that were lacking include Zinc and Copper but also in addition to boosting growth,

the use of superphosphate was implemented for the successful and longevity growth of legume pastures such as Lucerne,

which paved the way to what now is a very large successful agricultural region.
