New experiences at Wellington Courthouse
Picture yourself cosied up on leather chesterfields with friends, a glass of Langhorne Creek red, with the pot belly stove warming our toes. We think we’ve found the perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon.
Sounds like your thing too? Then get yourself booked into the Wellington Courthouse, and check out all the changes that have been made by the new management, including the new Stables Bar Lounge (yes, it is actually in the former Courthouse Stables).
Dawn Muir, Functions Coordinator, is excited about the changes, such as the Judge & Jury Café in the courtyard area, a dining space in the loft for 26 people, and the private Telegraph Room, with fireside dining for groups of up to eight people. By our count, that’s two spaces with open fires, so you can’t go wrong hanging out here in Winter.
‘We’ve been open for a month, and have had great feedback from visitors,’ Dawn says. ‘We’re going with a gradual start, as it’s Winter, with the café open Friday to Sunday between 10am and 2pm, but we welcome group bookings and functions for any time of the week, lunch or dinner.’
Guests will enjoy home-style country cooking and baking, great coffee and local South Australian wines, including from Langhorne Creek.
Dawn has created a series of special events for the coming months to keep things interesting. ‘We have a special ribs dish for Father’s Day, and some indulgent (and potent!) strawberry creations for the over-18’s during the Wellington Strawberry Fete in October.’
Who loves to get the girls together for a high tea? Now you can book yourself a table on the Courthouse verandah for high tea in November. Sit yourself down to enjoy the best view of the river, with homemade cakes and scones, and champagne (and tea, of course).
We suggest you REALLY enjoy the champagne and book yourself a room for the night – they are gorgeous and include breakfast provisions as well.
Dawn says the history and grandeur of the Courthouse is special and needs to be savoured. ‘We want people to be able to gather together and linger, have a meal or drinks, and enjoy the uniqueness of the place. We wanted it to be an interactive experience for guests, so they will not only dine in historical surrounds, but they will do so with antique crockery like footed vegetable dishes, and Royal Doulton platters,’ says Dawn.
