The best ways to watch the V8 SuperSprint

Fire up your jets Revheads - the countdown is on for the V8 SuperSprint at Tailem Bend!

The Australian Supercars Championship is returning to The Bend in August, and we can’t help but notice the growing buzz of anticipation around the Coorong.

The inaugural race last year was huge, and it was a big thrill for locals to see hordes of teams and punters enjoying the region, and, let’s just say it, injecting their dollars and energy into the local economy.

And, it’s not every day you walk into your local bakery to see Shane van Gisbergen patiently signing autographs while he waits for a sausage roll and coffee.  Too cool.

The Bend SA Motorsport Park is a cracking, world-class venue at any time, so if you haven’t seen it yet, make time during the SuperSprint.  There is lots to see and do, and here are our best tips to see the action:

  • Watch the race from your own car!  Pack the deckchairs and the BBQ, it’s just like a day at the country footy.  There are now two zones so you can choose which side of the circuit to be on.
  • Go all out and get yourself a three day ticket to the balconies, suites or roof top villa.  Amazing value, jaw dropping track views and plenty of drivers mingling about.

  • Park yourself in the grandstand at the end of pit straight and watch the beasts spray gravel and scream around the first corner.  This year, there are superscreens so you can check out the action on the other side of the track.
  • Make sure you spend an extra $10 on a Welcome Centre pass, so you can get a look at display cars, and the pit action through the bar windows – the noise and atmosphere is a real buzz.

Want to make a weekend of it? Then stay a few days and avoid the drive back to the city.  There are plenty of accommodation options – holiday houses, motels, pubs and camp grounds. You can find accommodation options here.

There’s only 50 days until 23 August, so don’t miss out on the action.  Revhead or not, you will love, love, love it.
