Coorong pub crawl anyone ? We have you covered!

Embark on the mother of all pub crawls when you explore these country pubs in the Coorong and Murray River.

You will find pubs with views that you just can’t beat, great food and beer, award-winning wine lists and things to amuse the kids.  So take a day trip, or stay a few days and treat yourself to a meal and a cheeky beverage or two.

The Wellington Hotel

Officially, but rarely called the Wellington Hotel, the ‘Welly’, licensed in 1848, is big on cosiness and big on views.  Perched right on the banks of the River Murray, parts of this little gem remain largely unchanged.

In winter you’ll find punters nursing a glass of red and warming their backsides by the wood fire.  In summer, they’re on the deck and the lawn checking out the action on the river below.

The Welly has great pub food, generous portions, live music, and endless fun for the kids.  If you happen to have your boat we suggest you motor it direct to the pub, and tie it to their jetty while you have lunch. Not many pubs where you can arrive in a boat!

The Riverside Hotel

Starring a balcony perched high on the river cliffs of Tailem Bend, the views alone are worth the visit.  Park yourself on the balcony and soak up the Murray River, farming country and distant peaks of the Mt Lofty ranges.  If you’re having dinner, get in early for a pre-dinner drink and be dazzled by the sunset over the water.

After a hard day churning up the river, this pub is packed with locals and holiday makers. All the favourite beers are on tap, with a selection of craft beers and SA wines.  Great selection of meals to suit every taste, separate kids play area and jaw-dropping views.  And, you can bring your boat!

Murray Bridge Hotel

This historic hotel in the centre of town had a major facelift a few years back, and it has delivered bars, a dining room and front lounge that nail the contemporary-historic vibe.

This place cocoons its guests with open fireplaces, leather booths, polished timber and soaring ceilings.  It’s all about relaxing and not leaving for hours, whether you’re nursing a glass of red by the fire, or enjoying a long meal.

A great menu matches the award-winning wine list. Main events include coconut and lime crusted salmon, and a warm Thai duck salad, with all the old pub favourites included.

Bridge Hotel

This little gem is in the heart of an emerging wine region with serious cred, Langhorne Creek. Recently renovated, the historic 1850 pub has a buzzing outdoor terrace. Undercover, and equipped with gas heaters and long tables for large groups, it is the place to be.

You’d expect to find a decent array of local wines in the middle of a wine region, and this popular pub doesn’t disappoint.  Great country pub food with some hipster twists (we love the calamari snitty), lots of lawn for the kids to run amok, and even water bowls for canine guests.  The Bridge is always packed so we suggest you book ahead.

Tailem Bend Hotel

This two story pub has fed and watered Tailem Bend railway workers and locals for decades.  Now under new management, it’s being revitalised with some cosmetic upgrades and a great new menu.

If you want to enjoy an authentic old country pub, then this is the place for you.  Check out the traditional steak and ‘snitty’ nights, and make sure you try the mixed grill – superb!

Meningie Hotel

Take a break on the long road between the South-East and Adelaide with this bona-fide country pub experience.  This is the best place to sample the famous local favourite – Coorong mullet.

The staff and locals are friendly, and the service is quick.  If you’re looking to combine some beer love with a day out with the family, then get along to the annual ‘Mowers @ Meningie’ lawn mower race hosted by the pub.  Food, drinks and stuff for the kids to do, and out the back, people tearing around a racetrack on lawn mowers.  Just another day in the country – guaranteed fun.
