Where to stay in Meningie? The Lake Albert Caravan Park, the place to be!

The Lake Albert Caravan Park is home to living legends Jacqui Grant and Troy Fynnaart who are community-minded personalities that believe tourism is vit

al to the success of Meningie and the Coorong.

These dynamic business partners met some years ago at the Glenelg Football Club, Adelaide. At that time, Troy had been working for 12 y

ears at Mitsubishi Motors with Jacqui’s late husband Tony (a 40-year employee) who lost his battle with cancer in 2010.

“I had to do something, and I remembered fondly, all the family Caravan holidays we had; we’ve always owed a Caravan – it was a great lifestyle,” Jacqui said. “Tony, like Troy, found himself retrenched – Tony was the last to leave Mitsubishi and Troy could not find any permanent work, and that in short is why we’ve got this place.”

So, on October the 10th, 2011, Jacqui and Troy took over the Lake Albert Caravan Park and set about making it something special.  But, what sets this friendly duo apart is their commitment to making sure that Lake Albert Caravan Park is a home away from home for travellers and locals alike.

Jacqui and Troy have a simple approach.  ‘We like to party’ says Jacqui and ‘so all we do is set up for a party, a party that we would like to go to and invite our park guests and the locals to join in’.

Using this simple formula, Jacqui and Troy now host a range of creative events throughout the year.

Each year we host a classic Vintage Caravan Weekend, a fabulous Melbourne Cup day and a massive New Year’s Eve show with live music,” Jacqui said.

Jacqui and Troy also recently installed an enormous television for their regular movie and live entertainment nights. So, if you are ever looking for something to do in Meningie? Jacqui and Troy have you sorted.

But the fun isn’t limited to park guests only.  Jacqui and Troy have an open door policy, which includes the locals and their families.

“We love having the locals in the park, Meningie is such a wonderful place to live and its great to see the visitors and locals enjoying themselves’ explains

 Jacqui.

“We didn’t know what to expect when we came from Adelaide, we didn’t know anyone, and we came into town ‘cold turkey’. But, Meningie was so friendly that we wanted to share that with our guests”

Both are emotionally and commercially invested in the region.  Troy ran the popular Blue House Holiday Home for a number of years in Meningie and Jacqui owns a beautiful block of land in Milang.

“I was always going to build my dream holiday home at Milang, but I’ve got my old kombi and I think I’ll just sell the block and buy another caravan park,” laughed Jacqui.

Leasing the park from the Coorong District Council on a peppercorn lease agreement, the dynamic duo find themselves looking to the future and retirement.

“I don’t have a strict business plan and you can really relax in this business as long as you can multitask – I love meeting people and I need to keep working a bit longer yet,” Jacqui said.
