Connect With Your Family at Coorong Cabins
Who doesn’t love a road trip?
When I was tasked with visiting Coorong Cabins I was pretty excited as the Coorong held many childhood memories for me. Fishing trips and beach buggy days came flooding back as I passed each little bush track that wove away from the asphalt.
It was wonderful to meet and chat to Meningie resident Michael (Mik) Batki, owner/ builder/creator of Coorong Cabins.
Mik was originally looking for an investment property in the Yorke Peninsula. Without any luck and at the suggestion of his realtor he threw caution in the wind and found that patch of land here in the Coorong, that was 5 years ago………
As a boiler maker/welder by trade Mik designed and built the cabins himself. As a self-professed perfectionist what he has accomplished is nothing short of amazing.
Strolling through his beautifully designed gardens I felt his connection with the land. His use of natural materials and items that he has repurposed highlights his creativity. His wood pile is not just a pile of wood! It’s a work of art!
The privacy is on point, each cabin appears hidden amongst the native gardens and Mik’s sculptures seem to emerge from the ground in a life all of their own, look closely because they are everywhere.
If you are looking to unplug and immerse yourself in nature the bird life here is prolific. There are little nooks where you can sit, relax and take it all in throughout the garden. If it’s a tad chilly don’t worry! An open fire pit and maybe a nip of port is just around the corner.
I just love that almost every piece of material used in the creation of this place, this garden, has a story and I found that just fascinating…..
